Manchester United rescued a point with just minutes to play at Stamford Bridge, with Casemiro’s perfect header narrowly crossing the line after Jorginho had given the hosts the lead in the 87th minute.
Erik ten Hag’s men were dominant for most of the game but somehow, they had not found the net yet and a decision by the officials took centre-stage.
With just minutes remaining, Armando Broja went down in the United box and Scott McTominay was deemed to have fouled the forward. Jorginho scored the subsequent penalty.
Speaking after the game, Bruno Fernandes has given his thoughts on the incident.
“I have no view because I was in front,” he told Football Daily when asked about the decision. “It’s difficult to talk about, obviously.
“What I said to the referee is like, in the Premier League, this kind of contact is every single game. I didn’t see the contact but I think holding, if we start whistling these kind of penalties, it’s difficult but as I said, I didn’t see it.
“I can’t say if it’s right or not. Scott said he was not holding him so I don’t know, I have to see it. Obviously, it makes no sense now talking about that because it will change nothing.”
It’s never easy to concede late in games but United would have been outraged if that was not given at the other end. Nevertheless, United did well to recover from it and claim a point even though they will feel they were deserving of three.
