Manchester United are looking to make it back-to-back wins in the Premier League in what could be a hugely successful couple of days for Erik ten Hag’s men.
United were comfortable in their 2-0 win over Tottenham earlier in the week but now face a perhaps bigger test as they travel to London to face Chelsea on Saturday.
Victory over Graham Potter’s side would see United leapfrog them in the table and give themselves a huge advantage in the race for a top-four finish.
There are, however, a number of selection concerns Ten Hag will need to deal with and one of them is due to the lack of forwards available. Cristiano Ronaldo has been removed from the first-team squad following his behaviour against Tottenham and now, Ten Hag has confirmed that Anthony Martial will miss another game.
“Martial? He was on the [training] pitch, but he’s not available for tomorrow,” Ten Hag is quoted as saying by the official Manchester United website.
“We have to see how it develops in the coming days.”
In the pair’s absence, it’s likely that Marcus Rashford will continue to lead the line after impressing so far this season, with Jadon Sancho and Antony both expected to keep their places in the frontline as well.
SN’s verdict…
Martial enjoyed a stellar pre-season and in his few appearances this season, he has always been impressive. That’s why his injury nightmare this season must be frustrating for Ten Hag.
It was made clear very early on that Martial was Ten Hag’s preferred option for that role but unfortunately, his hands have been tied and the Frenchman will have to wait even longer.
From a supporter’s viewpoint, Martial’s continued absence is starting to get very frustrating. He has always had problems with injuries but nothing quite like this.
