Ronaldo breaks silence after storming off against Tottenham Hotspur

Manchester United issued a statement on Thursday regarding Cristiano Ronaldo and how he has been axed from the squad to face Chelsea this Saturday.

They also carefully stated that the rest of the squad is fully focused on preparing for that fixture. That may or may not be a dig at Ronaldo who only seems to be focused on himself right now.

To show frustration at a time he his team-mates were beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 at Old Trafford is poor if you ask me. At 37, I think everyone expects better and it doesn’t surprise he that he has owed up to his mistake.

Ronaldo has made a mistake, but his statement does not excuse his behaviour and he should be fined before being brought into the team again. That will warn every player that there are consequences for crossing the line.

The forward says he going to get his head down at Carrington over the coming weeks.

His statement read: “As I’ve always done throughout my career, I try to live and play respectfully towards my colleagues, my adversaries and my coaches. That hasn’t changed. I haven’t changed. I’m the same person and the same professional that I’ve been for the last 20 years playing elite football, and respect has always played a very important role in my decision making process.

“I started very young, the older and most experienced players examples were always very important to me. Therefore, later on, I’ve always tried to set the example myself for the youngsters that grew in all the teams that I’ve represented. Unfortunately that’s not always possible and sometimes the heat of the moment gets the best of us.

“Right now, I just feel that I have to keep working hard in Carrington, support my teammates and be ready for everything in any given game. Giving in to the pressure is not an option. It never was. This is Manchester United, and united we must stand. Soon we’ll be together again.”

Doing something in the heat of the moment is one thing, but at 37 we expect better.

  1. Be the person you say you are not a person who thinks he is bigger than the club. You would never had done that under Sir Alex so why now? Act your age and give your experience to the youngsters & support them

    1. Exactly! He loves to portray himself as this amazing gentleman but his actions are that of a toddler throwing a tantrum.
