Lisandro Martinez reflected on Manchester United’s win against Tottenham Hotspur in an honest and heartwarming post-match interview.
The Argetinian offered another outstanding performance in central defence for the Red Devils last night as he continues to prove his worth and reliability in this new-look United squad.
Martinez alongside Raphael Varane looks to be United’s most trustworthy centre-back partnership in years. The two picked up their fourth clean sheet of the Premier League season and even more impressively, kept prolific attackers Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min quiet all evening.
The three points put the Reds in a strong position heading into Saturday’s clash against Chelsea, as they are now only one point behind Graham Potter’s side after their stalemate against Brentford last night. United are also only four points behind third-place Spurs with a game in hand.
Martinez feels the love from United fans
When reflecting on the night, Martinez told MUTV: “We did a top performance tonight, we controlled the game, we played fantastic football tonight, I am really happy for that. I am happy because this team deserve it.”
In regards to supporters chanting for him in Old Trafford, he said: “It’s very emotional for me. I’m in one of the best clubs in the world. This stadium, the atmosphere is amazing. When I heard the people say that [‘Argentina, Argentina’] to be honest, sometimes I want to cry.
“My beginning was really hard.. but not with my mother, my father, my girlfriend, my sisters, and this result is for my grandmother and grandfather. They are not with me now, but I always felt that love with me.”
