Erik ten Hag has named his Manchester United starting eleven to take on Omonia in Thursday’s Europa League clash.
A notable omission from the starting line-up was Raphael Varane, with Victor Lindelof taking the Frenchman’s place.
Varane was forced to leave the pitch early during United’s clash with Manchester City on October 2 after picking an injury in the first half. It was later confirmed that the defender had suffered from a sprain and was not expected to be sidelined for a long period.
As a safety precaution Ten Hag opted to rest Varane for last week’s clash with Omonia, as well as Sunday’s trip to Goodison Park.
Midweek, the 29-year-old trained solely away from the squad at Carrington with a fitness coach.
How many games will Varane miss?
The manager likely is resting Varane as the Reds enter a busy six-day period, in which they will face Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea. With the France international’s concerning injury history, taking precautions is the wisest option.
