Former Rangers and Scotland striker Ally McCoist says Cristiano Ronaldo should have left Manchester United in the summer.
McCoist doesn’t think being a substitute suits Ronaldo and that he must move elsewhere top play out the remaining days of his career, which could mean he can no longer expect to play at the highest level.
Speaking to talkSPORT radio, McCoist said: “Cristiano Ronaldo should have left in the summer. I just think he has reached a stage in his career where he deserves to play out his career and enjoy it and play as often as he can.
“That won’t be the case at Manchester United, Erik ten Hag has got to build a team and you saw Ronaldo come off the bench more often than not. I don’t think he will start and I don’t think that will suit him. I don’t have a train of thought that a lot of people have that he would be a bad egg.
“That’s just him not enjoying getting beat or losing games of football. Ten Hag and Ronaldo will decide, but I would hate to see his career just sort of peter out, we saw enough against Everton to see he still has magic there that can get goals, it was a great goal it really was.”
