Glazer family put $10bn valuation on Manchester United

Reports suggest the Glazer family would consider selling Manchester United if they received a bid more than $10billion.

The update comes after Britain’s richest man, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, revealed that he met with the Glazers and dismissed claims that the club was for sale. The Mancunian businessman could be simply distancing himself if the $10billion valuation is to be believed.

However, we don’t believe that the club isn’t for sale after hearing from multiple sources that the American family would sell for significantly less than the $10billion mentioned in a report from the Daily Star.

That price would be enough to make Manchester United the most valuable sports team in the world, with NFL giants the Dallas Cowboys currently ranked No. 1 after being valued at a whopping £8billion.

It goes without saying at this point that the Glazers are unpopular with United fans.

Since their debt-ridden takeover in 2005, the Glazers have paid themselves hefty annual dividends which doesn’t add up after years of failure on the pitch.

United fans rightly see it as a form of abuse. That’s why they have protested at every home game this season, with plans do to the same when Newcastle United come to Old Trafford on Sunday.

Stretty News verdict – $10bn seems excessive

The Glazer family bought United via a hostile takeover and a leveraged buyout that plunged the club into £660million worth of debt.

By putting a $10bn valuation on the club, the Glazers could turn off interested parties because that doesn’t cover the money that needs to be invested in a new stadium or upgrades to Carrington training complex.

I don’t see anyone buying the club – in its current state — for that amount.
