Manchester United achieve new Premier League record after Everton clash

Manchester United have become the first side to win 100 Premier League games after conceding the first goal.

The record was reached after United saw out a tense 2-1 defeat over Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday, October 9.

An early goal from Alex Iwobi left the Reds scrambling for composure before Antony netted an impressive left-footed strike just 10 minutes after Everton’s opener. Cristiano Ronaldo, who was substituted into the game early to replace an injured Anthony Martial, added a goal before half-time to secure all three points for the Red Devils.

According to Opta Joe, United have become the first side to win 100 Premier League games after conceding the first goal.

The last time United added to their long-standing record was December 2, 2021, against Arsenal. Emile Smith Rowe scored in the 13th minute at Old Trafford in a match that ended 3-2 in the Manchester side’s favour after an equaliser from Bruno Fernandes and a brace from Ronaldo.

Two further records were achieved on the night for United; Cristiano Ronaldo hit 700 career goals after his 44th-minute game-winning goal, whereas Antony became the first player in the club’s history to score in his first three Premier League matches.

The Brazilian winger has impressed fans with his ability to cut in from the right wing and test the opposition’s goalkeeper with a curling shot on goal – a trick which has worked against Arsenal, Manchester City and now the Merseyside club.

Hopefully the 22-year-old will be able to add Newcastle United to the list during Sunday’s game against The Magpies.
