Paul Merson doesn’t think Manchester United will win at Goodison Park

Manchester United are aiming to get back to winning ways in the Premier League tonight with a trip to Everton.

The Red Devils suffered a heavy defeat against rivals Manchester City last time out, whilst Everton beat Southampton 2-1 to stretch their unbeaten run to eight games under Frank Lampard. That is quite a pickup from the relegation form they showed last term.

It was a relief to see United win on Thursday night against Omonia Nicosia, although Erik ten Hag’s side made hard work of it. Goals from substitutes Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial turned the game on its head. The question is can United make it two wins on the bounce?

Speaking to Sportskeeda, former Arsenal star turned pundit Paul Merson said: “Everton have done really well in recent weeks – and I’ve been impressed with what Frank Lampard has done at the club so far. He’s getting the absolute best out of the players at his disposal, which is what the fans want to see.

“I don’t see Manchester United winning this game, as Everton are notoriously hard to break down and they tend to frustrate teams like they did so against neighbours Liverpool.”

Merson predicted a 1-1 draw.

However, United will be looking for revenge at Goodison Park, where they lost 1-0 last season.

Anthony Gordon’s 27-minute strike secured all three points for the Toffees, and the scores were level when the two teams met in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford.
