Barcelona are in the market for anew right-back.
The La Liga giants currently have Sergi Roberto and Hector Bellerin on the books, but neither are seen as long-term solutions. Futhermore it has been a problematic area for Barcelona since Dani Alves left Camp Nou for the first time.
It begs the question why Barcelona let Sergino Dest leave on loan during the summer. The former Ajax right-back was linked with a move to Old Trafford after failing to impress at Barcelona, but he joined AC Milan on loan instead.
According to Sport, as cited by Football Espana, Barcelona are looking into options for next summer with three right-backs on their shortlist. Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot tops the list, but he is joined by Torino’s Wilfried Stephane Singo and Monaco’s Vanderson.
United have a decision to make on Dalot because his contract expires next summer. The club can trigger a one-year extension which he deserves based on performances since the 2022/23 season began.
Given his age and quality, I think this is a player that warrants a new contract at United. We’re not saying make Dalot the highest paid right-back in the world – but I wouldn’t sell him unless Barcelona offered close to £25-30million for his signature.
We shouldn’t forget Barcelona’s antics from the Frenkie de Jong saga.
