Erik ten Hag made two signings during the summer to strengthen Manchester United’s defence, and he could look to make add another defensive player to his ranks in January. Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries is the latest player to be linked with a move to Old Trafford.
A lot will depend on how much money Ten Hag must spend in January and I wouldn’t be one to expect any activity following John Murtough’s recent comments on a conference call to investors.
Tyrell Malacia and Lisandro Martinez have been good signings and I think we all have a better idea of United’s best back four, however, there is still room for improvement at right-back. Furthermore it doesn’t come as a surprise that the Red Devils are being linked with a move for Dumfries because there has been ongoing speculation dating back to the summer.
We shouldn’t take anything away from Diogo Dalot’s performances this season. The Portugal international is slowly making the position his own but he has no competition, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka struggling to convince Ten Hag thus far. The former Crystal Palace full-back is currently injured and the manager has been unable to rest Dalot in the Europa League.
That leads us to a report from Italian publication Calcio Mercato which claims United are planning to move for Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries in January.
The Netherlands international has enjoyed a decent season for Inter Milan to date – scoring two goals and registering one assist. Dumfries will be aiming to beat last season’s tally of five goals and two assists.
Dumfries’ contract at Inter is set to expire in 2025, so the Italian giants are under no pressure to sell.
