Harry Maguire is set to miss up to two weeks of football following an injury he sustained on international duty.

The centre-back has spent a lot of this season on the bench, despite starting Manchester United’s first two games which ended in defeat. Erik ten Hag changed things around at the back and appears to have settled on Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez as his centre-back duo.

However, away from United, Maguire has been subject to criticism whilst playing for England. He picked up a new injury in the 3-3 draw against Germany in the UEFA Nations League.

According to the Daily Mail, Maguire is set to miss between 10 and 14 days of action.

This means United have two senior central defenders injured, but Ten Hag is not worried about the knock Varane picked up in the first-half against Manchester City.

Victor Lindelof started alongside Martinez in United’s 3-2 away win at Omonia on Thursday night. The pair could start at Goodison Park this weekend when United travel to face Everton in the Premier League.

Stretty News verdict

Maguire has become a bench player this season, so we are not going to pretend this is a major loss to the team.

But maybe some time away from the spotlight is what Maguire needs to shake off the non-stop criticism he has been getting over the past year or two.

Hopefully Varane is back soon!
