Luke Chadwick demands more from Manchester United winger

Former Manchester United academy graduate Luke Chadwick has expressed his views on Jadon Sancho after a disappointing Manchester derby.

The England international struggled for form after joining United just over a year ago, but he appeared to rediscover his mojo at the beginning of this season – derby aside.

Chadwick thinks Sancho will be disappointed with how things have gone for him at United so far, but he also believes that the 22-year-old can turn things around at Old Trafford.

“With Sancho, he’s still a young player and it’s not been the smoothest transition for him. It was a big change in style from what he was used to at Dortmund, and then of course we’ve had the change in managers,” Chadwick told Caught Offside.

“I think Ten Hag likes him, he’s started all the games and hopefully that will give him confidence and then that can lead to an up-turn in performances. I wouldn’t say he’s been poor this season, but I’m sure he would have liked to have had more of an impact on the team in the time that he’s been here, which has been quite a while now.

“Hopefully with a more settled situation and a manager who’s hopefully going to be here a while now, it can benefit Sancho and we’ll see him add better numbers to his game in terms of goals and assists as we saw at Dortmund.”

Last season was a write off for most players and it seems harsh to criticise new signings from that period. Like most of the squad, Sancho is working with Erik ten Hag for the first time and it will take time for everything to gel.

I’m confident it will and that players like Sancho and Marcus Rashford will benefit from working with the Dutchman.

Paul Scholes aims dig at Manchester United wingers

Former midfielder Paul Scholes took aim at Antony and Sancho for their part in the Manchester derby defeat.

Scholes posted a picture of former teammates David Beckham and Ryan Giggs, with the caption: “Anyone remember when wingers used to help their full-backs?”

It was a clear to dig to suggest neither Antony or Sancho were carrying out their defensive duties.
