Uruguay international Facundo Pellistri has yet to feature for Manchester United this season, but the winger was named on the bench for the Manchester derby at the weekend after returning from injury.

The 20-year-old made his first Premier League matchday squad since he signed from Penarol in 2020. He then spent a bit of time with the U23s before being loaned out to Spanish club Alaves on two separate occasions.

There is a good chance we will see Pellistri get minutes on the pitch in the next two weeks, with as many games coming up in the Europa League – both against Omonia Nicosia.

In an interview with ESPN Argentina, Pellistri claims that he is ready to play whenever required.

“Now in Manchester will have an important string of games, so I also hope to get minutes at the club,” he said. Erik ten Hag is a good coach, with a very clear idea; I really want to start participating in the team.”

These games are ideal for Pellistri to make a breakthrough.

Even though it’s incredibly unlikely that Pellistri will earn a place in the team most weeks – ahead of new signing Antony – he should still aim to get minutes off the bench this season.

I mean, Pellistri must have something about him if he’s starting games for Uruguay.

It was a shame that injury prevent Pellistri from going out on loan in the summer. Hopefully he can make it work to his advantage by working closely with Erik ten Hag.
