Gary Neville accused Manchester United of ‘bottling it’ against Manchester City in Sunday’s embarrassing derby.
Manchester City won the match 6-3 after Erling Haaland and Phil Foden both struck hat-tricks.
Antony pulled one goal back 10 minutes into the second half, but a comeback was never likely because City were too far ahead. A late brace from Anthony Martial put some respectability to the scoreline for the Red Devils, yet it is not enough to shake off the fact it was an embarrassing result.
City were worth their win and Neville doesn’t think the scoreline tells the full story of the game.
Speaking about United’s late revival in the game, Neville told Sky Sports (via The Metro): “It’s a consolation, City have made four changes, the game has got a bit open.
“United have scored three goals and obviously got better in the second half but the story of the game is that he’ll [Ten Hag] look at that first half where his team froze and they no doubt bottled it.
“They weren’t anywhere near this game or occasion and that will be the part of the game that he’ll analyse most. To score 3 goals here is some consolation.”
If we have any ambition to win Premier League titles again, games like today show how far we need to go to reach teams like City. Ten Hag is still learning about all of his players and I wouldn’t be surprised to see some changes in his upcoming line-ups.
Bring Wan Bissaka to starting X1; he is better than Dalot. Erik The Hag should stop hating players.
Totally agree. I’m baffled that these managers prefer attacking wing backs to superior defenders. Dalot is suspect as a shut down defender.
