(Video) Ten Hag explains why he believed Rashford would bounce back

Erik ten Hag has revealed what he told Marcus Rashford after becoming Manchester United manager.

It was always going to a task for Ten Hag to get Rashford back to his best as he was one of the United players who really struggled last season.

We should remember that when Ralf Rangnick came in as interim manager, it wasn’t long before Rashford lost his place in the team to Anthony Elanga, who has been given minutes by Ten Hag this season.

Rashford is enjoying an impressive start to the season, scoring three goals and registering two assists, as well as winning the Premier League Player of the Month award for September.

Ten Hag claims he knew Rashford would have a revival this season due to his sheer potential.

“From day one I was so excited to work with him,” Ten Hag told Sky Sports. “I saw his status and I knew already the impact he could have and his potential.

“Now he’s bringing that potential to the pitch so I’m really happy with his development.

“I told him on day one, I want to see you smiling every day. We said that we would prepare the training sessions and then it’s up to you to love the training and give your best because when you feel pressure in training and enjoy it you will give your best.

“If you give your best you will improve and you will perform on the pitch. Then life is easy and your performance will go up.”

Rashford was unlucky to miss out on a place in the recent England squad due to an injury. He will be hoping to build on his form between now and the World Cup to make the cut under Gareth Southgate.

Thankfully, Rashford is back to face Manchester City this weekend.
