Manuel Locatelli rejected the chance to join Manchester United in the summer, according to reports in Italy.
The 24-year-old Italian midfielder has had a difficult season in Turin under Massimiliano Allegri after signing from Sassuolo last year, so it would be fair to say things haven’t gone to plan.
It is well known that Manchester United were desperate to sign a midfielder in the summer.
The Red Devils spent over 100 days chasing Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong but settled for Casemiro from Real Madrid instead.
However, Casemiro has yet to get a run in the team because he is being kept out by Scott McTominay, who has surprised everyone with his performances this season.
A recent report from Calcio Mercato claims United approached another midfielder in the summer, with Locatelli rejected the chance to move to Old Trafford.
The article states that United showed interest in Locatelli before they made an approach to sign Adrien Rabiot which fell through.
Stretty News verdict
It’s been well documented that Locatelli has not delivered in the way Juventus would have imagined when he joined from Sassuolo, so how on earth has he been identified as a target?
Maybe… just maybe someone at United thinks it’s a chance worth taking.
Like Juventus did with Paul Pogba during the summer before it quickly backfired, with the Frenchman sustaining a serious knee injury which could put his World Cup prospects in doubt.
