While Erik ten Hag has managed to steady the ship at Manchester United, the Dutch coach still faces several dilemmas when it comes to building his squad for the future.

David de Gea is one who hasn’t covered themselves in glory this season. There has been faults that led to goals – three of the four we conceded against Brentford – and his overall attributes are subject to criticism in the modern game.

According to 90min, Atletico Madrid are considering an offer to re-sign De Gea as a free agent in 2023.

To play at the top, as a goalkeeper, you are expected to have a bit more about than you an elite shot-stopping ability.

The problems many have with De Gea is his distribution and reluctance to leave the line. Those issues have become glaring obvious in a team that is trying to build from the back.

However, something I have noticed in recent matches is that we are now playing more long balls, presumably to cater for De Gea’s limitations.

Rumours are beginning to suggest that Everton’s Jordan Pickford and Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez are being targeted as replacements. Other stories suggest it could be Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak.

Let us know in the comments section how you feel about De Gea and whether you think one of the names mentioned would be a good replacement. Personally, I’m a little disappointed that Diogo Costa’s name is being mentioned.
