Although I think it’s extremely unlikely that Antoine Griezmann will be signing for Manchester United, I have seen stranger things happen in football.
In a recent article written by The Athletic‘s Dermot Corrigan, you can read an in-depth piece on Antoine Griezmann’s uncertain future in Spain and suggest Manchester United could look to sign him in January if the opportunity proposes itself.
For starters, United shouldn’t be looking to sign a 31-year-old forward who has failed to reach previous heights in his last two moves — Barcelona and his return to Atletico Madrid.
The France international is currently on loan at Atletico from Barcelona.
Griezmann is also in the middle of a dispute, which could see him pushed out of his current club, at a time I thought United were in the process of shaking up their transfer policy.
Corrigan reports: “If the dispute is not resolved, then an option would be for Griezmann to move again, perhaps even as soon as January. Manchester United were one of a number of Premier League clubs to inquire about him during last summer’s transfer window. The player at that point was only focused on staying at Atletico and did not listen to any other options, but everyone’s patience is getting tried at the moment.”
This season Griezmann has scored three goals in his first four games as an impact sub.
My advice — for what it’s worth — would be to let another Premier League club throw the cash at Griezmann. Surely his chance to join United has come and gone.
