Manchester United tracked record-breaking Arsenal youngster

Arsenal youngster Ethan Nwaneri became the Premier League’s youngest-ever player on Sunday, stepping off the bench against Brentford, aged 15 years and 181 days.

Now, a report from The Times claims Manchester United are one of three Premier League clubs to have ‘tracked’ the young talent. The other clubs include Liverpool and Manchester City.

It’s an incredible feat to make your Premier League debut at such a young age, but I think Mikel Arteta deserves some credit for putting faith in a 15-year-old.

Arsenal had three points in the bag already but it’s always good to see young players get an opportunity at the highest level.

Nwaneri is bound to attract more interest if he gets more minutes for Arsenal this season. United, Liverpool and City may even keep an eye on his development after previously registering an interest.

There are contractual issues at play for Arsenal here because Nwaneri can’t sign professional terms until he turns 17.

By handing him his debut, Arteta is trying to cement his connection to the club. Will it work?
