Barcelona prioritised Raphinha over Manchester United’s new signing

The Spanish media believe Barcelona opted to sign Raphinha rather than Antony during the summer.

Barcelona were seen as one of the most controversial clubs this summer due to the ‘financial implications’ they face. They made several signings including Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kounde but refused to pay they owed midfielder and Manchester United target Frenkie de Jong.

Raphinha was already a top target and there wasn’t much reported about Antony moving to Barcelona at the time. The former Ajax winger had interest from United and it was always clear he wanted to join Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

However, according to Sport, Barcelona chose to sign Raphinha instead of Antony, despite Jordi Cruyff watching the latter during his time at Ajax.

Cruyff – along with manager Xavi – apparently felt Raphina was more of a complete player, whereas we wouldn’t change Antony for the former Leeds United star.

Both players have talent in abundance.
