Jamie Carragher hits out at Eric Bailly after Manchester United claims

Eric Bailly claims Manchester United favoured English players ahead of international recruits, but former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has hit out at the defender who is currently on loan at Marseille.

The Ivorian centre-back is dropping hints that he won’t be returning to United after his loan spell in France and he has now suggested the Red Devils “should avoid favouring English players and give everyone a chance.”

It’s remarkable that Bailly has come out with this after being pushed down the pecking order by an Argentina international, with Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw both losing their places in the team.

Martinez has been a rock at the back alongside Raphael Varane and Ten Hag is unlikely to bring in Maguire or Victor Lindelof unless he needs to rotate players.

Jamie Carragher slams Eric Bailly over Manchester United comments

Carragher has hit back at the claims with a brutal takedown – by tell Bailly that Maguire is a better player than him, which I totally agree with.

He tweeted: “Absolute nonsense, Eric Bailly has been injured consistently and poor when he has played. That’s why they keep buying players to replace him! Harry Maguire is a better player.”

You won’t find me agreeing with Carragher very often!

Bailly’s contract at United expires next summer and I can’t see him returning to the club after his recent comments.

Total nonsense, as Carragher said.
