Paul Scholes waves lyrical over Manchester United new signing Christian Eriksen

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes is a fan of new signing Christian Eriksen.

Scholes has identified Eriksen as a player United have needed for years because he has brought a forward-thinking mentality to the team.

Speaking to Premier League Productions, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News: “Well, forwards know when the ball’s coming – they know they’ve got a midfield player who is thinking about them even before the ball comes. They know he’s watching, he’s looking all the time.

“He’s always scanning the pitch and he’s only thinking about going forward – I can’t tell you how important that is as a number ten and as a wide player because, if you don’t have that and you have the players that we’ve had playing in there who are always facing backwards and going backwards, their movement’s a waste of time, so whatever movement they do it doesn’t matter.

“You see Bruno, who’s so clever to get in those spaces behind the midfield and in front of the back four, but you need someone to find him and Christian Eriksen has certainly got that. For a number 10 to have any kind of influence on a football game then they need a midfield player of that kind of quality.”

Christian Eriksen’s growing influence at Manchester United is clear to see

It must come as the ultimate praise for Eriksen – coming from a club legend like Scholes – in the early days of his United career.

Moreover, the Sky Sports man of the match award was handed to Eriksen after United’s 3-1 win over Arsenal, with the Dane playing a key role in all the goals. Eriksen’s slick passing is boosted by his ability to see things in a game before they happen.

Eriksen has started all six of United’s matches so far and recorded his first assist (for Rashford) against the Gunners. He can expect a rest on Thursday night when the Red Devils start their Europa League campaign as Real Sociedad visit Old Trafford.
