Lisandro Martinez injury against Arsenal not as bad as first feared

Manchester United made it four wins on the bounce to end Arsenal’s 100 per cent record in the Premier League.

One player who is having a huge impact at Manchester United is Lisandro Martinez. The Argentine joined from Ajax in the summer, but his performances this season have been of a high standard and his personality is rubbing off on other players in the team.

That is why United fans feared the worst when Martinez went down in the second half before being replaced by Harry Maguire. At first, it looked like the defender pointed towards his groin, but it sounds like Erik ten Hag made a precautionary decision.

According to TyC Sports journalist Gaston Edul, Martinez was substituted from the game as a precaution after suffering from a slight adductor injury, but he is expected to be available to face Crystal Palace this weekend.

Edul’s tweet translated: “Lisandro Martinez is fine. Only the adductor was loaded a little. He went out as a precaution. Nothing serious.”

Martinez was always going to get a rest against Real Sociedad in the Europa League, which gives Ten Hag a chance to reward Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof with a start. Both players will then get the chance to push Raphael Varane and Martinez for a place in the team, but it finally looks like we’ve settled on a defensive pairing.
