Tahith Chong has been sold by Manchester United to Birmingham City.
The Championship announced the deal just before the transfer deadline, with Chong returning to Birmingham City where he had a stint on loan last season.
Chong follows James Garner in clinching a deadline day transfer away from Manchester United on a permanent deal.
The Dutch winger didn’t do anywhere near enough to impress new manager Erik ten Hag on tour this summer, but he clearly showed something on loan at Birmingham City to warrant their interest.
A disappointing display in a friendly match against Rayo Vallecano was the last time United fans got to see Chong in the Red shirt, yet we wish him all the best at his new club.
Tahith Chong departs for Birmingham City in £1.5m deal
From a United perspective, I think we sold a player who was never going to get a place in the starting line-up. Chong showed lots of promise in the youth teams following a switch from Feyenoord, but he never seemed ready for first team football in the top-flight.
BBC Sport claims United will recieve £1.5m for Chong’s signature.
It’s also a good move for Chong to ensure that he gets more first team football.
Previous loan spells at Werder Bremen and Club Brugge didn’t go to plan either.
Speaking to Birmingham City’s official website, Chong said: “I am excited to be back. Especially after last season, I have always felt Birmingham City had been my second home.
“It’s nice because I came in, I know everyone already. Seeing familiar faces. Everyone at the club, the staff, the players and the fans – everyone made me feel so welcome, a family club.
“I feel ready to go. I am very excited to get going. It’s great to be back.”
