It’s sad to see James Garner is on the verge of leaving Manchester United.
I, like many Manchester United fans, had high hopes for Garner after seeing him impressing on loan at Nottingham Forest in the Championship.
That said, I didn’t expect us to sign Casemiro and with Christian Eriksen arriving on a Bosman, it is clear that Erik ten Hag is trying to reshape our midfield for the better.
According to talkSPORT, Everton have agreed a fee with United worth £15 million for Garner, who was told he can leave Old Trafford this summer.
It is understood that Southampton also had an interest in Garner.
The Telegraph claims that United believe injuries have hindered Garner’s development.
United will make a profit regardless of the transfer fee because Garner is a product of the academy, however, I think we should be demanding more money for his signature.
I’m not saying Garner is worth significantly more than £15m but why make it easy for another Premier League club to sign one of our promising players?
Unless United think his value will drop over the coming year, it would be a better idea to send him on loan to Goodison Park…
Good deal for Garner, able to learn from one of the finest midfielders to have played for England.
Hopefully United have a buy-back option included in the deal, as Garner would be ready to replace Fred within a couple of years.
