(Video) Erik ten Hag says Bruno Fernandes’ winner vs Southampton was the ‘perfect goal’

Erik ten Hag’s tenure at Manchester United is finally up and running after two straight victories in the Premier League. The Dutchman oversaw a combative 2-1 win against Liverpool earlier this week and now, a hard-fought three points on the south coast.

United were from their brilliant best at St. Mary’s but did enough to earn at least one goal. Bruno Fernandes’ second-half volley proved to be enough for the Reds.

Speaking after the game, Ten Hag reserved special praise for his stand-in captain’s strike, hailing it as the ‘perfect goal’.

“That was not only Bruno Fernandes, it was really a team goal,” Ten Hag told BeIN Sports as he described the match-winning strike.

“It was set up from the back and was really well played. I’m really happy with that, the movement, the moment we take decisions, when we play the players free, the cross in, the finish – it was the perfect goal.”

The win at Southampton moved United into seventh in the table but they could drop back down after Saturday’s round of games. Nevertheless, the focus will now be on turning this into a winning run – starting at Leicester on Thursday.

The game against Brendan Rodgers’ side comes after the transfer window has closed and by then, Ten Hag will hope to have added some firepower to the squad.
