Manchester United were in action at St. Marys as Erik ten Hag looked to secure back-to-back wins in the Premier League for the first time, having overseen an impressive 2-1 win over Liverpool earlier this week.
United were sombre in the first half but came out of the blocks after the interval and immediately made their dominance pay as Bruno Fernandes volleyed home a 1-0 lead.
It wasn’t the prettiest but United closed out the game and also registered their first clean sheet of the campaign. They’re now up to six points from four games.
Man United Player Ratings
David de Gea – 7
Made one stellar save to deny Aribo in the second half. Other than that, the Spaniard didn’t have much to do.
Diogo Dalot – 8
Nearly flawless throughout the game and provided the decisive assist. Long way back for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Raphael Varane – 8
Another strong performance from the Frenchman. Establishing himself as one half of an undroppable duo at the back.
Lisandro Martinez – 9
Man of the Match once again. After facing all that scrutiny after the loss to Brentford, he has shown exactly why Ten Hag put his faith in him. This time, he was up against two physical strikers and the Argentine comfortably dealt with it.
Tyrell Malacia – 7
Not as eye-catching as his performance against Liverpool but still warrants a high rating. Energetic, purposeful and doesn’t leave anything out there – exactly what United have been missing in that position.
Scott McTominay – 8
Unlucky to miss out on Man of the Match but it was another assured performance from the Scot.
Christian Eriksen – 7
The only player to showcase any sort of creativity in the first half and in all honesty, he should have scored.
Jadon Sancho – 6
United’s slow build-up certainly didn’t help him but he’ll be looking to improve against Leicester.
Bruno Fernandes – 8
He’s quickly becoming a captain-like figure in the team and you must wonder whether that’s a decision Ten Hag is considering. Scored the winner and took the goal really well.
Marcus Rashford – 6
It goes without saying that Rashford has a long way to go before he’s back to his best but slowly, he’s getting there. He’s not sulking on the pitch anymore and that’s a huge step forward.
Anthony Elanga – 7
Has all the qualities to become a useful player for Ten Hag – he’s certainly a team player.
Substitutions
Cristiano Ronaldo – 6
Looked to be struggling with a knee injury. Spurned some great counter-attacking chances late on.
Casemiro – N/A
Fantastic moment for him as he made his debut. Made one crucial interception inside the box.
Fred – N/A
Late substitute to close out the game.
It was a fucking penalty’!
