Manchester United set to make fresh bid for Antony

Manchester United will push again for the signing of Ajax winger Antony.

After playing under Erik ten Hag at Ajax it is understood that the new Manchester United manager is desperate to bring the Brazil international to Old Trafford in a bid to bolster his attacking options.

The 22-year-old was a key part of Ajax’s side last year, scoring 12 goals and assisting 10 more to help the team to the title and reach the Champions League knockout stages.

United have yet to agree a price with Ajax, although it’s believed that everything is in place for an agreement with Antony and his entourage.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United are preparing another bid for Antony, and Ajax are holding out for an offer of around €100 million (£84.15m).

Samuel Luckhurst reports: “Antony would have been attainable for €80m had United not already furnished Ajax with £46.8m up front for centre-back Lisandro Martinez.”

Antony gives United something else in attack

Antony would give United another dangerous option on the right and I think we could see lots of rotation under Ten Hag – in attack as well as defence. He brings both goals and assist to the table and we need more players contributing in front of goal.

The problem for United is Ajax have a strong bargaining position after selling Lisandro Martinez, Ryan Gravenberch and Sebastian Haller this summer. They are under no pressure to sell Antony, though the player is now trying to force a move.

And with the player giving signals that he wants a move to United, I always felt we would go in one with last offer before deadline day.

Let’s hope it will be a successful bid.
