Piers Morgan’s call for Erik ten Hag to be sacked backfires amid Ronaldo decision

Erik ten Hag made two big decisions ahead of Monday night’s game against Liverpool. Harry Maguire, the club captain, was dropped alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, last season’s top goalscorer.

The pair are out of the team for different reasons but there are mitigating circumstances to Ronaldo’s exclusion – the 37-year-old has tried to engineer a move away from the club all summer.

Piers Morgan, who claims to be a friend of Ronaldo’s, reacted strongly to Ten Hag’s decision to drop Ronaldo prior to the game and even called for the Dutchman to be sacked.

It didn’t last long until United supporters hijacked Morgan’s characteristic Twitter rant as Ten Hag’s men comfortably grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and Ronaldo watched from the bench.

It was arguably the best performance by United for over 12 months and it’s hard to imagine them replicating that with Ronaldo in the side.
