Manchester United will be looking at getting back to winning ways when they take on Liverpool in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Monday night.

The Reds go into the game on the back of a bitterly disappointing 4-0 defeat to Brentford last weekend, whilst Liverpool drew 1-1 with Crystal Palace at Anfield.

Raphael Varane could be recalled to the starting eleven to face Liverpool after been named on the substitutes bench in each of United’s last two games, and Anthony Martial could also be involved after recovering from a hamstring injury.

I don’t think Manchester United have ever started a season so badly. A shock opening day home defeat to Brighton followed by a hammering at Brentford last weekend has made it a miserable start to the season and one which nobody could have foreseen coming. It was hard to imagine United getting any worse than last season but so far that unfortunately has been the case.

Liverpool are another team that has started the new season slowly having only picked up two points from the opening two games, but despite that they will no doubt fancy their chances against United on Monday night. The 5-0 defeat suffered at Old Trafford last year is still fresh in the minds of much of the Reds faithful and should United fail to turn up here we could easily see another repeat performance.

Despite a dreadful start to the season, I am quietly confident United can get something out of this game. There isn’t a bigger fixture in the footballing calendar for Manchester United than facing Liverpool and you would hope the Reds will be fired up and turn up for this one and Ten Hag will know himself we can ill afford for another hammering.

An early goal from United too in many respects could go a long way in this one. It would help ease the pressure on the players tremendously  and lift the mood and atmosphere inside Old Trafford and with Ronaldo, Fernandes, Martial and co all expected to start we certainly have more than enough firepower to cause Liverpool problems.

Its a game likely to be an entertaining game for the neutrals and one which I do think we will manage to get something out of.

Prediction: Manchester United 3-3 Liverpool
