Those claims come from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo after Thomas Tuchel told reporters after their 3-0 defeat to Leeds United that he was focusing on their attack rather than midfield or defence.
It makes me wonder whether all this Chelsea interest was just a smokescreen – set by Barcelona – to try make Manchester United panic or force De Jong into a decision. It has been long reported that he is Erik ten Hag’s primary target this season, although we’ve now switched our attention to Casemiro.
Only time will tell if United will try to sign De Jong on top of the Brazil international, which would see our midfield improve by some degree.
De Jong started in Barcelona’s 4-1 win over Real Sociedad on Sunday evening.
The Netherlands international didn’t play very well in Sergio Busquets’ absence and he cost Barcelona a goal early on.
