Manchester United have more than one hole to plug before the transfer window shuts in less than two weeks and right-back is one of the areas Erik ten Hag is reportedly keen on improving.
Thus far, he has preferred Diogo Dalot over Aaron Wan-Bissaka but the Portugal international has endured a tough start to the Premier League season and has been largely unconvincing since joining the Reds four years ago.
The uncertainty over United’s right flank has prompted endless links to right-backs all over Europe, with Barcelona’s Sergino Dest among those to be linked. The American defender worked with Ten Hag at Ajax before leaving for the Catalan club in 2020.
Now, another name has been added to the long list of players. According to leading transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, United have been offered the chance to sign Borussia Dortmund defender Thomas Meunier.

The former Paris Saint-Germain star joined Dortmund in 2020 but any deal to bring him to Old Trafford will depend on Wan-Bissaka’s future, Romano told CaughtOffside.
As per the report, United are looking to offload Wan-Bissaka and Meunier has emerged as an alternative for Ten Hag. The 30-year-old has two years remaining on his deal with the German giants.
SN’s verdict…
It’s fair to assume that Ten Hag is keen on revamping the majority of the squad at his disposal and that has been reflected by United’s activity in the transfer market.
Meunier is, however, a very underwhelming target from a fan’s perspective. He is below par in the defensive third and although he is better than United’s options at the other end, it’s another short-term solution to a long-term problem.
Dalot has just one year remaining on his deal at United and unless fresh terms are agreed, a long-term replacement is needed sooner rather than later. Unfortunately, Meunier is not that player.
