Manchester United could make a move for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo before transfer deadline day.

As things stand, our midfield has gone backwards over the past 12 months because we’ve not replaced players who left the club when their contracts expired this summer. A lot of those players needed to go – if not all – but the new manager has not been backed like he should have been in the transfer window.

It is Erik ten Hag’s first season in charge and the board should be giving him every chance to succeed, but we have lost the first two games of the season.

With time running out to sign Frenkie de Jong, it would make sense if United started to act on some alternative options because we need to accelerating talks in the coming days.

The latest report comes from the Mirror, who state United have added Brighton’s Moises Caicedo to their list of potential targets. Ten Hag would have seen him up close in United’s 2-1 defeat on the opening weekend of the 2022/23 season.

It is suggested that Caicedo is being monitored closely by Arsenal, West Ham, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen.

United showed an interest in Caicedo over a year ago – prior to his move to Brighton in the 2021 winter window, costing £4.5 million. It is likely that Brighton will demand at least 10x times that amount for his signature now.

Again, this just shows our incompetence in the market, missing out on players when they are available on the cheap. Our scouts and recruitment team must do better.

Let us know in the comments section if you think Caicedo would be a good signing for United.
