Manchester United’s disastrous start to the Premier League season continued on Saturday evening as they succumbed to a four-goal defeat at the hands of Brentford.

The latest mishap followed the 2-1 defeat to Brighton last week and Erik ten Hag, who has become the first United manager to lose his first two games in roughly a century, has a world of bother at his hands.

David de Gea – 2
Gifted the hosts the opener and was also at fault for the second goal.

Diogo Dalot – 1
Only in the team because Aaron Wan-Bissaka is slightly worse in the final third – at least that’s the line we’re being fed but it’s a common misconception. Wan-Bissaka is superior in every department and deserves to be given a chance if a new right-back isn’t signed.

Harry Maguire – 2
Another capitulation overseen by the captain.

Lisandro Martinez – 2
Hooked at half-time. Tough start to life at Old Trafford.

Luke Shaw – 1
Tyrell Malacia must be wondering what he has to do to start a game. Another pathetic performance from Shaw.

Fred – 1
Time is up for Fred as well. With one year remaining on his contract, an extension can’t be justified.

Christian Eriksen – 3
Not the fairytale return to Brentford he would have liked. Not at fault for the second goal.

Jadon Sancho – 5
Tries to make it work but is completely let down by players around him.

Bruno Fernandes – 3
Passenger. Shadow of his former self.

Marcus Rashford – 3
Feels like he may get it right soon but for now, the same issues remain.

Cristiano Ronaldo – 1
After spending the entire summer trying to engineer a move away from the club, that was a disgraceful performance from Ronaldo, who should be setting the benchmark.
