Manchester United are not giving up on Frenkie de Jong.

The Red Devils are expected to try to conclude a deal within the next week for De Jong.

According to Marcel Van Der Kraan of the Telegraaf, an established newspaper in the Netherlands, De Jong is still a number one priority for United. The journalist reportedly dropped the latest news on a podcast.

De Jong has been Erik ten Hag’s primary target for the past 11 weeks.

On top of that, the Dutch journalist claims United will make another attempt to seal the midfielder’s signature in the coming days.

It is believed that Barcelona needs to shift De Jong if they are to make more signings this summer. They’re already struggling to register players.

SN’s verdict

It would only make sense for United to wait on De Jong if they have received assurances that he will join the club this summer.

Barcelona have played hardball over his deferred wages all summer and they are not obligated to pay that money this summer. In their eyes, it can wait until his contract expires.

I want the saga done with – and for De Jong to line-up against Liverpool in United’s third game of the season.

Is that too much to ask for after being tormented over football transfers all summer?
