Pundit says Erik Ten Hag will be under pressure if one thing happens

Manchester United have had an underwhelming start to the season, both on and off the pitch.

Having been drawn against Brighton and Hove Albion for their opening Premier League tie, although the Red Devils were thumped 4-0 in the same fixture last season, there was restored hope that new manager Erik ten Hag could guide his team to a win this time out.

However, despite naming a strong starting 11, United were well beaten on the day.

A first-half brace from Pascal Gross was enough to seal all three points for Graham Potter’s men – leaving ten Hag with no choice but to return back to the drawing board.

Even though United have made three permanent senior signings this summer, it is not enough because ten Hag has remained vocal in wanting more additions.

Shock reports recently have linked the Red Devils with Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot (The Athletic) and Bologna striker Marko Arnautovic (Sky Sports Italy).

Reacting to suggestions ten Hag wants to be reunited with Arnautovic, former Chelsea player turned pundit, Chris Sutton, who spoke to the BBC, believes if the 20-times league winners do sign the ex-Stoke City forward, he’ll be under early pressure.

“It’s a real wrong move in terms of the eyes of the supporters. There’s a million other players out there United should have been linked with. I do no get that,’ Sutton said.

“It’s an absolute PR disaster. If Arnautovic comes in, that’s going to put Ten Hag under so much pressure.”
