Manchester United irritated by delay to De Jong transfer

Manchester United fans have been frustrated by the Frenkie de Jong saga for weeks now.

But now it seems like the board are growing tired with delays caused by Barcelona.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are frustrated by the delays to a protracted deal for Frenkie de Jong.

Samuel Luckhurst reports: “Sources familiar with negotiations say there is bafflement at United that they have been portrayed as the dysfunctional club in the ordeal when the ‘messy situation’ between De Jong and Barcelona is the source of the hold-up.”

The Red Devils have agreed a deal with Barcelona for the Netherlands midfielder several weeks ago, but there is a belief belief that the delay is down to the La Liga owing De Jong €17 million in wages.

I would also be concerned about De Jong’s preference…

Especially now there is now interest from Chelsea. The Stamford Bridge club can offer him Champions League football next season, while United will be battling it out in the second-rate Europa League.

SN’s verdict

I suspect United will show signs that they are going to walk away from the De Jong deal, unless the process speeds up over the coming days.

That could be a ploy but I’m not sure why they’d do that with Chelsea waiting for sign De Jong.

Hopefully, we are not looking back at this saga thinking it was a complete waste of time.

  1. Barcelona have played United, which is why United are being laughed at.
Give Barcelona a deadline; pay his wages so we can sign him, or we will reduce the agreed fee by £1, million per week for any delay
