Bruno Fernandes vows to justify new United contract

Bruno Fernandes signed a new five-year contract at Manchester United back in March.

The Portugal international didn’t live up to his expectations last season, but he still managed to hit double digits with his goal tally from midfield.

Ultimately, it was a disappointing season for the entire first team as United went a fifth year without winning a single trophy. Erik ten Hag has been appointed manager to change that to give us all a brighter future.

Fernandes will hope to have a positive impact on the team in a successful campaign. United fans want to be back in the Champions League, but we also demand trophies, and a good cup run is overdue.

The 27-year-old is expected to remain a key player under Ten Hag and we think he will strike a lethal combination with new signing Christian Eriksen.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Fernandes said: “When I arrived the club was being criticised and the results were not the best, so when I came in but not because of me, the team started getting better results.

“Last season, as a team it was no successful so individually it’s difficult to be successful.I was trying in the same way to improve the team, but obviously, it was a difficult season for everyone. It was tough to be successful individually.

“The results were not there. As soon as the team is doing well and getting good results, that will make me happy and make my game be much better. I know everyone is expecting so much from me because of my first season.

“Last season I only scored 10 goals and 14 assists. I know I can do much better than that. I’m happy for what I’ve been doing at the club and the new contract shows the club respects me and trusts me, and it’s time for me to repay that.”

Fernandes was one of the players tipped for the captaincy role this season until Ten Hag decided to stick with Harry Maguire.
