Alex Telles edges closer to United exit as talks process over La Liga loan

Manchester United left-back looks set to join Sevilla.

According to Fabrizio Romano, La Liga outfit Sevilla are moving closer to sealing a loan deal for Telles, with talks between the clubs progressing well.

Telles has accepted the destination and an agreement is close.

Romano posted an update on Twitter, writing: “Sevilla are closing on Alex Telles deal with Manchester United. The player has accepted the destination and the agreement is set to be completed. It’s a matter of final details discussed between clubs. Work in progress.”

It is understood that a deal depends on whether United will cover part of his salary over the 12 months.

The Brazilian has two years left on his current deal at Old Trafford, but he is surplus to requirements following the arrival of Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord.

Telles has not been able to push Luke Shaw for a place in the team since his transfer from FC Porto in 2020. Moreover, he did not take his opportunities to impress under former interim manager Ralf Rangnick last season.

In his 50 appearances for United, Telles has contributed one goal and eight assists, but Erik ten Hag made it clear over the summer that he doesn’t fancy him at left-back. He made several appearances at centre-back instead.

It goes without saying that Telles wouldn’t be trusted at centre-back in a competitive game.
