Manchester United take on Atletico Madrid in Oslo this afternoon.

Erik ten Hag has named his starting eleven ahead of kick-off and Jadon Sancho is the most notable absentee, with Cristiano Ronaldo staying in Manchester for Sunday’s game against Rayo Vallecano.

The 37-year-old is expected to return for United’s last pre-season game before the 2022/23 campaign kicks-off next week.

Sancho has been one of United’s key players on pre-season tour and Ten Hag is right not to risk him for a match that is only considered a friendly.

However, for the other players, who has yet to show the same levels as the England international under Ten Hag, it’s their last chance to make a good enough impression to start against Brighton in eight days’ time.

Speaking to MUTV ahead of the match against Atleti, as quoted by The Mirror, Ten Hag explained the winger’s absence after he felt unwell following the trip to Oslo: “Overnight he got sick, so he is not available.”

We can only hope that it is nothing serious and Sancho will be fit for the start of the competitive season.

Stay tuned for more coverage from Oslo!
