Van der Sar sends warm departing message to Martinez after United transfer

Edwin van der Sar sends a message to Lisandro Martinez following his Ajax departure.

Ajax chief executive Edwin van der Sar has sent a heartfelt parting message to Argentina international, who was officially announced as a Manchester United player this week.

Martinez, 24, forms a reunion with manager Erik ten Hag after becoming one of his most trusted players in Amsterdam.

Former United goalkeeper Van der Sar has done some incredible work in an administrative role at Ajax, which has led to regular speculation about him returning to Old Trafford, but fans must wait to see if our club will truly transition into the England’s answer to Ajax under Ten Hag’s management. We’ve not only signed Martinez but there has been links to several other players like Antony and Jurrien Timber.

Van der Sar has sent a warm departing message to Martinez after his move to United, describing the centre-back as a ‘warrior’.

The tweet was accompanied by a picture of Van der Sar and Martinez holding an Ajax shirt.

“What a warrior you have been for us in Amsterdam!,” Van der Sar wrote. “We all loved your ability to develop yourself like so many others before you and play the football we like to watch but if needed, the determination in defence.

“Good luck at this amazing club with a manager that shares the philosophy of attacking football in the style of Ajax. Mucha suerte, Licha.”
