Birmingham City boss responds to Hannibal Mejbri links

Birmingham City manager John Eustace has commented on the club being linked with Manchester United starlet Hannibal Mejbri.

The 19-year-old is expected to leave United on loan this summer in a bid to gain more first team experience.

Four Championship clubs have been linked with a move for the Tunisia international.

West Brom, Middlesbrough, Millwall and Birmingham are all keen to sign Hannibal for the next 12 months.

The youngster got some minutes under Erik ten Hag on pre-season tour this summer, but the Dutchman probably won’t reassess his role again until next summer, on the back of his likely loan move.

He will get tested in the Championship – at least physically – and learn a lot if he can cement a regular place in the first team somewhere.

United sent Tahith Chong and Teden Mengi on loan to Birmingham City last year, but new manager John Eustace was asked about the prospect of signing Hannibal.

Eustace told BirminghamLive: “I am sure we are being linked with a lot of players, I know Hannibal is a very good player, Man United have got some fantastic young players in their squad.

“We had a fantastic one (Chong) come to the club last year and did very well. Listen if good players are linked to Birmingham City that’s good for us.”

It remains to be seen what will happen with Chong this season, but he didn’t stand out on tour to show signs that he is ready to push for a place in Ten Hag’s side next season.
