Manchester United are having a positive pre-season tour, although Alejandro Garnacho has not featured at all, when many fans would’ve predicted some game time for the young goalscorer.
That said, a lot of youngsters were involved in the first four matches played on tour, but it didn’t quite happen for Garnacho.
Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage were excellent in midfield and we got to see Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo rack up some goal contributions.
Garnacho, 18, returned early to Carrington for pre-season training in a bid to impress the new manager, but for one reason or another Ten Hag overlooked him in Bangkok, Melbourne and Perth.
That is not to say Ten Hag doesn’t rate Garnacho and has decided he doesn’t want to work with him. In fact, the reality seems quite the opposite.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Garnacho has impressed Ten Hag enough to warrant a new contract offering from the club – so maybe this pre-season tour wasn’t a complete waste for the FA Youth Cup-winner.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said: “Ten Hag is really convinced of the skills of this boy (Garnacho). The idea of the club is to offer him a new contract. It’s also approved by the manager. Contract discussions will be ongoing with Garnacho.
“Let’s see if Man United will decide to keep him or send him on loan during the window.”
Garnacho is being tipped for big things and there has been reported interest from Real Madrid, with his contract set to expire.
The Argentina U20 international won the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award last season and it would be a huge blow to lose him before his peak years. This is the type of player we should be looking to keep for the future rather than lose.
