United plot last attempt to sign Antony but Ajax must lower demands

Manchester United have targeted a move for Antony this summer but Ajax continue to play hardball over the Brazilian attacker’s price tag.

While Ajax are reluctant to sell Antony, Goal understands Manchester United are plotting a last attempt to sign the right-winger in order to reunite him with Erik ten Hag.

United have been frustrated by Ajax’s stance because they know the 22-year-old wants to join before deadline day.

A previous offer of €60 million (£51m) fell short of Ajax’s asking price which is believed to be an additional €80m.

Ajax’s reluctance to sell may stem from the fact they’ve already lost key players his summer such as Lisandro Martinez to United, Sebastian Haller to Borussia Dortmund and Ryan Gravenberch to Bayern Munich.

United’s next offer is expected to be more than the €60m previously offered, but I can’t see them paying the €80m Ajax reportedly want for Antony’s signature.

Antony signed a five-year contract when he joined the Eredivisie side from Sao Paulo in July 2020.

Since then, he has made 78 appearances for the club, scoring 22 times.

Sao Paulo could earn a significant portion of any transfer fee hence why Ajax are trying to get more money out of United.
