Current Manchester United World Cup players

The 2022-23 EPL is set to start soon in August. However, this season is different. During November and December, the EPL will take a break with matches resuming on Boxing Day.

This is to accommodate the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Typically, the World Cup takes place in the summer, which is during off-season for club football. However, as during the summer it will be a million degrees in Qatar, the World Cup is being played in the winter.

To prepare for the looming World Cup, let’s have some fun and take a look at some of the current Manchester United players who will be competing in Qatar for international glory.

Cristiano Ronaldo – Portugal

Ronaldo is always a World Cup threat and has played in three tournaments so far. If you want to utilise promotions for gambling, or place some money on a player to score at the World Cup, our money would be on Ronaldo. He regularly performs for Portugal and is the all-time leading international scorer with 117 goals.

Portugal remains a decent squad, although their group includes Uruguay, who are in top form and also have a strong side. We can expect Ronaldo to do his usual thing and be magnificent.

Raphael Varane – France

Varane enjoyed a successful career at Real Madrid before moving to the Reds in 2021. He had a decent first season and made an immediate impact in defence.

Varane has also played extensively for both the Youth and Senior French national teams and is a regular fixture of their back four. His World Cup experience includes playing in the 2014 tournament and starting in all of France’s seven games in their triumphant 2018 campaign in Russia. He has also played in the Euro 2020 tournament, although he was injured for Euro 2016.

David de Gea – Spain

David de Gea remains our number one goalkeeper and is still one of the best goalkeepers in the world. He has played for the Red Devils since 2011 and has also played at multiple international tournaments for the Spanish squad.

For Spain, he has succeeded the legendary goalkeeper Iker Casillas and has been fairly successful. His first major international tournament was Euro 2016, and he then went on to play in the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Spain remains a strong contender for the 2022 World Cup and we can expect David de Gea to play an important role.

Luke Shaw – England

Shaw is a strong left-back who started his career at Southampton. Since joining United in 2014, he has been a fantastic defender and has also been a regular fixture with the England international squad. Shaw played in the 2014 World Cup and holds the record of being the youngest player to appear in the tournament. Shaw also played in Euro 2020 and has the record of scoring the fastest ever goal in a Euro Championship final.

Fred – Brazil

Frederico Rodrigues de Paula Santos, or as we call him, Fred, has played for United since 2018 as a midfielder. Although he hasn’t had a huge impact, he has still scored a handful of goals and is turning into a decent player.

For his international career, Fred has played for both the Brazil Under-20 team and the Brazil National Team. Although he was selected for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, he failed to make an appearance and did not play any minutes. Perhaps 2022 will be the year he breaks through and has an impact and more play time.

Facundo Pellistri – Uruguay

Pellistri is currently on loan to Deportivo Alaves in the Spanish La Liga and has been since 2021. Currently, he hasn’t played any Premier League games for United, and his only game was a pre-season matchup in 2021 against Derby County. Regardless, it looks as if due to his young age, United hope that he gains vital skill and experience during his loan tenure.

For Uruguay, Pellistri played for the Under-16 team, and also played in two of Uruguay’s World Cup 2022 qualifying games against Venezuela and Paraguay.

As you can see, United has some incredible international talent. Indeed, most of the current United first-team squad plays for their national team. However, there are countries, such as Sweden, Ivory Coast and Scotland, who didn’t qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

November is set to be an incredible month. As United fans, we hope that our players will make an impact and prove themselves on the international stage.
