Manchester United hope to seal Lisandro Martinez deal in next 48 hours

Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez worked with Erik ten Hag last season. Now he is set to join the Dutch coach at Manchester United.

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, a deal is imminent following a long meeting in Amsterdam today, with an agreement close for more than €50 million.

Romano adds that the final talks will take place tomorrow as United hope to seal the deal in the next 24-48 hours.

The Italian journalist tweeted: “Lisandro Martinez to Manchester United, it’s imminent! Board mission in Amsterdam revealed yesterday is described as “positive, successful”. Long meeting with Ajax, agreement close for more than €50m. Final talks tomorrow: Man Utd hope to seal the deal in 24/48h.”

That means United are planning to announce the signing of Martinez in the coming days to give the Argentina international a chance to link up with his new team-mates in Australia.

As things stand, Tyrell Malacia is the only new signing United have made this summer and he made a second half appearance against Liverpool in Tuesday’s 4-0 win.

Reports in the Netherlands claim former United goalkeeper and Ajax CEO Edwin van der Sar put the transfer in the right direction during the recent meetings. De Telegraaf journalist Mike Verweij says Martinez turned down a move to Arsenal to join United this summer.

It’s only a matter of time before Martinez becomes a United player.
