Manchester United growing in confidence over Lisandro Martinez deal

Manchester United are confident about signing Lisandro Martinez from Ajax.

It sounds like Ajax are beginning to soften their stance on selling the Argentine as Fabrizio Romano claims they are willing to negotiate terms with United over a deal.

They have come to the decision to price Antony out of a move this summer, which goes against what Ajax stand for as a club, but it’s unlikely that they will keep Martinez against his will.

That said, Ajax are demanding a premium transfer fee for the 24-year-old Argentina international.

Romano tweeted: “Manchester United are now feeling confident on Lisandro Martinez deal. Ajax are open to discuss on the fee, new contacts expected very soon after bid rejected last week. Lisandro, pushing again with Ajax to leave the club this summer.”

There had been significant interest from Arsenal in the centre-back, but we could never see him turning down Erik ten Hag to work with Mikael Arteta. Not in a million years, once United reach an agreement with Ajax.

It is expected that new more talks will now take place.

Harry Maguire will sit out the first game of the pre-season tour, so Ten Hag has decided to go with Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof at centre-back to take on Liverpool in Bangkok.
