Cristiano Ronaldo lawyers seek $626k from Las Vegas case

Cristiano Ronaldo’s lawyer wants a U.S. judge to order a woman’s lawyer to pay the Manchester United star more than $626,000 in damages after claims she made in a failed lawsuit in 2018.

Ronaldo was accused of rape nearly a decade before the lawsuit opened and it’s something that has been hanging over his name for some time. He always denied the allegations and the case was recently settled by a federal judge, who claimed the lawsuit against Ronaldo should not proceed because Kathryn Mayorga’s lawyer tainted the process by relying on hacked documents.

Mayorga alleges that Ronaldo committed sexually assault at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas on June 13, 2009, but the LVMPD did not pursue the case. This led to Ronaldo and Mayorga’s parties agreeing on a settlement in 2010 – but at this point, the allegations were not in the public domain.

However, in a bluntly worded court document, Ronaldo’s attorney, Peter Christiansen, asks U.S. District Judge Jennifer Dorsey to make Mayorga’s attorney, Leslie Mark Stovall, personally responsible for the costs involved.

“Given Stovall’s abuses and flagrant misconduct, Stovall should be made personally responsible for ensuring Ronaldo is reimbursed for having to defend against his vexatious and bad faith conduct,” Christiansen said, as per ABC News.

The report adds that he tallied attorney fees at between $350 and $850 per hour and nearly 1,200 hours of work.
