Manchester United are plotting a £40 million bid for Arsenal defender Lisandro Martinez, according to reports.
TalkSPORT claim that Arsenal have already tabled two bids for the Argentina international, the second of which was worth £35 million, but it sounds like United could better that offer in the foreseeable future.
The Argentine played as a centre-back last season despite being just 5ft 9in, but he known for his versatility as being able to play at full-back and defensive midfield.
You could argue that Erik ten Hag is lacking utility options like this, but we could also see some current United players deployed to different positions next season.
I’m sure he will see some of the players differently to previous managers because he way of thinking about football is completely different.
Ten Hag’s relationship with Martinez should influence his decision this summer and that weighs heavily in United’s favour.
We are still unsure how United will line-up defensively next season and Martinez’ potential arrival could see the manager trial a back three in some games. A manager like Ten Hag likes his team to be flexible when it comes to formations — with and without the ball — so it will be intriguing to see how we perform over the coming months.
Mikel Arteta has had many attempts to get Arsenal into the top four – failing to do so every time. How many years do you think it will take Ten Hag?
